Summary/Abstract: The prestigious Christofle silverware manufacturer, which was named after its founder, Charles Christofle, was opened in 1830. Combining seriousness, quality and creativity with a strong scientific spirit, the Parisian firm shortly became one of the most important silverware suppliers of 19th and 20th century monarchies and members of the high society. Officially recognized as supplier of the French court in 1851, during the time of future emperor Napoleon III (since December 1852), Christofle became – for the European aristocracy influenced by French fashion – a trendsetter in terms of decorative art.
