Summary/Abstract: The history of the Armenian people is strongly related to Christianity. Armenians traditionally celebrate the embracing of the new religion from apostolic times. They are proud to confirm the apostolic mission of Taddeo and Bartolomeo, two of the disciples of Jesus Christ, through the Armenian territories. Early, in the 4th century, the Armenian kingdom of Tiridates adopted Christianity as the official religion of the state. Even though the conflicts along their history were almost permanent, they succeeded to preserve their national identity and Christian spirituality. The Armenians excelled in the art of stone carving. Also, they are well known for their beautiful rugs and the embellishment of the holy books with fine miniatures. Minor arts, the craftsmanship of precious metal represent an Armenian traditional vocation. They are all around the world recognized as craftsmen- silversmiths, goldsmiths and jewellers, but also as merchants of objects made from precious metals with precious stones. Most pieces of the Armenian silverware, preserved in the churches of Romania, are dated between the 18th and 19th centuries and are made in Austro-Hungarian, Russian or local workshops, keeping the Armenian particular themes and motifs.
