Summary/Abstract: We present the European laws and international conventions that Romania is a part of as well as a few aspects concerning Romanian laws issued before and after 1990 for the protection of national cultural heritage and the role that The Institute for Cultural Memory - cIMeC has in creating a digital inventory of the stolen mobile cultural objects. In June 2009 the inventory contains 210 objects, mainly archeology and art items. The article points the details of the new national digital inventory administered de cIMeC. In order to be in accord with the European partner institutions, the system was designed according to the international standard for describing art, antiques and antiquities (Object ID) created in 1999. The access to the national inventory will be allowed to museums, the police force and the customs service.
