Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the part of research defining cohesion of comprehension-knowledge in engineering by Lithuanian youth aged 19 - 25 and their independence performing jobs connected with engineering. Having selected youths of the above-mentioned age group from the whole population, the research sample included: young people from an adult high school, vocational training schools and colleges (technical and business), the University, Labour Exchange Bureau, and representatives of an informal group-market car dealers. The following assesment instruments were employed: comprehension-knowledge in engineering (applied technical knowledge and theoretical techinical knowledge) tests and questionaire "Young people and engineering". Conclusion of the research: independence is an important factor for boys acquiring comprehension-knowledge in engineering, it has less influence on girls.
