Summary/Abstract: The future of the environment and the entities acting therein should be of special interest to researchers. It is crucial to refer to statements indicating what the consequences of uncertainty are for the development of companies. Contrary to a popular view that can be found in the literature on strategic management, the present article is focused on the conceptual foundations of strategic choices which induce a state of inelasticity, a specific inertia. The aim of the article is to consider the adequacy of using the concept of path dependence to explain how the ways of acting get fixed and locked-in on a fundamental level. An analysis of the theoretical aspects suggests a considerable importance of the relation and evolutionary approach.
