ISLAMIC STATE - MORE THAN A TERRORIST GROUP

Summary/Abstract: Referring to the terrorist group Islamic State, Brett McGurk, the State Department’s deputy assistant secretary for Iraq and Iran said, in July 2014, that it is"worse than al-Qaeda" and that it "is no longer simply a terrorist organization” but a“full-blown army seeking to establish a self-governing state". Analyzing the group in terms of organization, finance, leadership, military capabilities, objectives and the strategy adopted by this, we determine both the truth of these statements and the danger posed by the Islamic State to the global security environment.
