Summary/Abstract: The origins of student associations in Galicia were found around 1855. Established and directed by the students Associations were organizations with a local government, financed mainly from their own funds. Funds were collected as the contributions of all members, another share was provided by organized events, as well as gifts materially affluent donors. An important element of student societies was to support less wealthy students, the revival of cultural and scientific life. This goal was achieved primarily by organizing and running their own libraries and reading, collecting books, scripts, academic journals and other library materials. Student’s associations were shaping the attitudes and behaviors of differentiated in terms of ideological and national Galician society.
