Summary/Abstract: Relations among different measures of socio-emotional and linguistic development were assessed in cross sectional design with infants from two age groups – 7- 9 months (N = 120), and 19-24 months (N = 120). At each of these time periods, different aspects of language development were scored- the imitation of linguistic units- reproduction of several syllables (with infants 7-9 months) and the productive language and construction and adequate application of interrogative sentences (19-24 months). Two different measures of socio-emotional development were applied – the child’s play activity and involvement in dyadic relationships with his/her mother at 7-9 months, and the coping and empathic behavior, respect of rules, child’s play activities, emotional understanding etc. (at 19-24 months). The statistical significant results between groups compared justified the relations between socio-emotional and language acquisition skills at the end of the first and as well as at the end of the second year of life.
