Category of Possessivity from the Point of View of Cognitive Linguistics

Summary/Abstract: In the article the category of possessivity is considered from the two aspects: basing on the standard (morphologized) forms and basing on the situation of possession and accordingly discourse conditions. Specific Russian constructions which have the meaning of joint ownership, or co-possession (У меня у вас вклад; его папины кальсоны; наша с моей женой квартира etc.) are drawn to the attention. The situation of inalienable possession in the Russian language is analyzed (хмурить брови, прищуривать глаза, открывать рот etc.). Innovations in the sphere of possessive adjectives are considered (уборщицын, слесарев, книжкин, яблонев etc.). Data of Russian literature and Russian National Corpus are being used. Several parallels with the other Slavic languages are made. Conclusions concerning the processes of grammaticalization and lexicalization in this sphere are described, too.
