Summary/Abstract: Noah was the tenth in descendent from Adam. In the line of Seth, he was the son of Lamech, and grandson of Methuselah. When he was born, his father calls him Noah, because he will “comfort us, for our work and labour of our hands, because of (or from) the ground which Jehovah hath cursed”. For some Christian writers, this was a prophetic feeling, a prophecy of the Messiah. The Ark was constructed in three tiers, one above another, and was divided in small compartments convenient for distribution of the different animals and their food. For letting the light, the Ark has a window which was finished “to a cubit above”. Also there was a door, placed in the side of the Ark. Finally, the Ark dimensions are: 300 cubits in length, 50 in breadth and 30 in height. This huge structure was intended only to float on the water and was not in the proper sense of the word a ship.Origen believes that this episode is more appropriate for a prophecy about Christ. To understand this, we have to ascend through the individual levels of the dwellings. Noah’s name (rest and rightness) shows that he must be understood as Jesus Christ (who has given rest to all humanity). The instructions for making the Ark have a mystical meaning. The dimensions of the Ark, the numbers symbolized crucifixion, Jesus Christ, the Church, the human body, the Trinity, the Pentecost. Also, the door symbolizes the way which those who come to Christ must to enter in. The squared timbers (rectangular wood) symbolized supporters of faith (teachers and preachers) who have to defend the Church from the attacking of pagans or heretics. Evan the animals from the Ark symbolizes all humanity, who live inside the Church, but in different stages.
