Summary/Abstract: At the Jordan, Joshua may be recognized as a type of Christ, because both started here his mission in the Holy Land. Joshua led the people of Israel into the land of promise, like Christ, our Savior, led us into Kingdom of Heaven. Entrusted with bearing the ark, the priests and Levites lead the procession across the Jordan, signifying their sacred responsibility. The Jordan crossing represents an image of Christian baptism. Because of the ark’s presence, Joshua caused the Jordan’s flow to cease. The divided waters symbolize two varieties of the baptized. Those who followed Joshua into the “Promised Land” signify, mystically, the progress of the new converts .
