Summary/Abstract: Technology-mediated learning and teaching has almost become a norm in the last decade. Drawing on the concept of blended learning as a way of enhancing learning and of extended classroom as a way of covering material in preparation for class, and outside the classroom, the present study reports the case of an ESAP course taught in higher education, traditionally classroom-based only, to which an online component was added via the Edmodo learning platform. A complex logistic and academic context elicited a form of blending that could answer questions such as: how can the course be improved, so that learning can happen even with students who have low attendance rates? what can be done to keep a closer monitor on the progress of learning of all students? what can be done to make students engage with the content beyond the classroom? The results of introducing an online group on Edmodo as the technology-enhanced component of the traditional approach proved positive, stimulating autonomy and self-paced learning, as well as smoothing class management and tapping into the students’ propensity to technology-mediated learning.
