/ Selected energy aspects of sustainable development in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe

Summary/Abstract: The concept of sustainable development is based on the postulate of integration of economic, social and environmental dimension to improve the quality of life of current and future generations. The European Union consistently developes economic policy regarding this idea. Particular emphasis is placed on evnironmental protection, which was reflected in the objectives of Europe 2020. The purpose of this article is to present selected environmental aspects of sustainable development of 11 countries from Central and Eastern Europe. These countries are still in the course of structural transformation of their economies, which relies on energy-intensive industries. The analysis was performed using selected indicators for the years 2004, 2013 and 2014, which made it possible to identify changes.
