Summary/Abstract: Although an intensive interest in CSR is observed mostly in contemporary times, the subject matter itself has a long history. Social issues, including mostly ethical and moral ones, have been obviously tackled by both Socrates and Aristotle. Also particular professions were a source of ethical and moral codes. Before the Christian Decalogue there were e.g. a medical code established by Hippocrates, Cicero’s lawyer’s code or Homeric knight ethics, etc. In that era the issues have rarely been referred to a wider social context as they are today. The aim of the article is therefore to conduct a critical analysis of the development of the research in that area including CSR as well as to present its continuation as a constant social issue.
