Summary/Abstract: The article considers issues of Russian language teaching in the Teachers Institute of Slavic Scholars that existed in St. Petersburg from 1866 to 1880 and prepared Slavic students for taking positions as ancient languages teachers in Russian classic schools. The methods of teaching Russian language in this Institute are analyzed. The contribution of Russian language teachers and their disciples to the Russian education and science is described.
