Summary/Abstract: In the European Union there is a qualitative change in the functioning of the borders that cease to be barriers and become a place of integration, as evidenced by the example of the cross-border metropolitan region Trinational Eurodistrict Basel. The aim of this article is to present the origin and process of development, as well as a detailed analysis of the organizational structure of the metropolitan region in question. These considerations are preceded by the characteristics of the cross-border metropolitan region of Trinational Eurodistrict Basel.
