Considerations on the impact of the international security environment changes on regional and national security.

Summary/Abstract: The transformation from bi- to uni-polarity and, for the foreseeable future, to multi-polarity, represents one of the main traits of the globalization phenomenon, which is defined on the one hand, by the fierce competition for access to resources of all kinds, by the conflicting forces inherent to the international relations system and on the other hand, by a series of sounding successes in such fields as economy, culture and society, by a sustained development in state-of –the-art technologies, by the advent of new weapon systems with increased lethality, as well as by new risks and threats to global peace and security. We live in a new world, but there is no new world order, no new world disorder. There is a zone of safety in Europe and one of chaos and danger outside it.
