Sovereign wealth funds as a factor for the development of African countries

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to try to assess the role of African SWFs in the development of Africa. The first part of the paper presents the characteristics of the African SWFs, the second discusses the positive effects of the African SWFs, and the third presents the risks associated with the establishment of PFM in Africa. The analysis shows that the impact of SWFs on Africa’s development is hampered by the specific socio-economic and political-institutional conditions in African countries and the lack of full information. The theory and practice provide arguments indicating the positive and negative impact of African SWFs on development processes in African countries during the period considered.
