Summary/Abstract: This article reviews old‑age pension systems in EU Member States. Faced by demographic ageing, most Member States have over the last decade reformed their pension systems. The article begins with a general background on principles of social security and construction of old-age pension systems. Author presents major trends in reforms and their impact on financial sustainability of the systems and adequacy retirement incomes now and in the future.
