Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to study the professional training of Ivan Parvov, Ivan Nikolaev Djebarov, Nikolay Dimitrov Mishev, Georguiev Lyaptchev Preslav, nephew of Bulgarian Prime Minister Andrey Lyaptchev and lieutenant Velisar Peev (1891–1949), as far as the Bulgarian archives are concerned, and to give an idea of the career outcome for francophone students in the fleet of his Majesty Tsar Ferdinand I, while defining the role and importance of this corpus for training of Bulgarian naval officers. The study makes detailed comparison between the two training centers of Bulgarian naval officers abroad – France and Russia. It is necessary to emphasize that in Brest Bulgarian naval officers acquired high quality professional training, which they demonstrated on the battlefields. The two causes that did not give them the chance to conquer hierarchy summits of the Bulgarian fleet are the negligible number of francophone students (after 1916 there are only two) and the orientation of the personnel policy of fleet commandment in Varna toward Russian trained officers. Completed primarily on data from the Bulgarian archives this research does not exhaust the problem, but is a step forward in its exploration. For a complex analysis and generalization of the phenomenon it is necessary to do extensive research in French archives, in order to clarify the details on training the Bulgarian officers acquired in Brest. This is a task for future studies of the Bulgarian-French relations in history of European maritime education in the beginning of last century.
