Summary/Abstract: The contemporary media-promoted music image of Serbia has been a subject of sociological rather than ethnomusicological debates and studies. Noticing, on the one hand, the lack of attention to this problem in research, and on the other hand, its existence over the last five decades, this essay will focus on the so called new-composed music, its performers and the role of the media. After a review of the selection of the current traditional and new-composed music, the three largest media houses: Radio-Television of Serbia, Radio-Television of Vojvodina and Pink Television have been chosen for the case study. After determining and looking into the present situation in this musical genre, the general characteristics of which are largely created by the policy of the said media houses, possible directions of further activity are suggested.
