Summary/Abstract: Consumer makes various decisions on the market that depend on numerous factors. The most important ones are economic, social, and psychological factors, as well as cultural background, education level and many others. The consumer behavior on the market may be rational and thought out but it may as well be irrational, e.g. impulsive. It sometimes happens that a purchased product is faulty and its faults can manifest even in a very remote future. Is the consumer on the market legally protected? Does he or she have a possibility to claim his/her rights in the event of purchasing a product with a quality inferior to the declared one? The aim of the article is to introduce the institution of the consumer ombudsman and legal regulations on which it is grounded. In the following, the matters of the cases handled by a county ombudsman office in the Pomeranian voivodeship are discussed.
