Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the beginnings of public relation offices inRomania, their establishment in the 1880s, presenting in the same time theirdevelopment in the first decades of the 20th century. The first public relationoffice was organized in the framework of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs andwas followed by similar institutions in all ministries. The paper presents thestrategies applied by the editorial staffs regarding public relations, the eventsand campaigns meant to popularise the newspapers, as well as the concernabout public activities. In most cases, the events were related to charityactivities and collections of funds for the victims of calamities or poorpeople. There is also mentioned the visit in Romania, in 1928, of theAmerican delegation led by Ivy L. Lee, father of modern public relations.After Second World War, the communist system created its own centralizedpublic relation institutions.
