Summary/Abstract: The social anthropologists, not exactly like the sociologists, consider the vendetta as a phenomenon typically related to pre-modern societies. They see it as a process that surpasses time and is installed in the mentalities of future generations as a “rigid structure”, “well codified”. As such, the phenomenon survives and continues to exist, because it cannot fade suddenly with law enforcement rules and practices. As a superior form of social control, vendetta ruins also at a certain measure the social cohesion. The book of Fatos Tarifa builds on these perspectives and is well supported by works on sociology, anthropology, psychology and even law studies. His book is well written, very clearly, with both scientific and intellectual competence.
