Summary/Abstract: One of the most important handicrafts in Anatolia, carpets have different motives, colors and compositions across different regions. The locals of Lâdik handed down their feelings of longing, love etc. to the next generations through motives on the carpets in accordance with the traditions, customs and beliefs of the region. The symbol language used in motives have common features. The aim of this study is to document the hand-knotted carpets in Ladik region and to determine the meanings of the ornaments on these carpets. The sample of this study was composed of 12 hand-knotted old and new carpets that were able to be found in private archives and mosques in Ladik district. Information forms were developed in accordance with the data obtained from hand-knotted carpets. By looking at these information forms, each motive on these carpets was examined and their meanings in the region and the sources were determined. As a result of the evaluation of 12 information forms, which were prepared in order to reflect the features of tapestries and prayer rugs, 38 different motives such as geometrical shapes, plants, symbols, figures, objects and writings were determined on these carpets. It was determined that the tulip was the most used motive in Ladik carpets. As a result of the interviews conducted with reference individuals, it was determined that the tulip motive on carpets knotted in Ladik district symbolizes the unity of Allah.
