Summary/Abstract: The essay deals with the character of the language of sport, using the examples of head-lines on the sports pages of daily press. The sports communication register is, in addition to the words directly related to sport, also composed of words from other areas of life, often in the form of metaphors, metonyms and phrases. The characteristics of the sports communication register are based on particular characteristics of the media sport. It appears that the characteristics of media sport are obviously an inspirational area for its self-reflection. It can be said that the sports communication register communicates with a language that is based on its body and competitiveness. It focuses on performance, captures heroism, its own systematization, it has the potential to produce a wide variety of emotions, often speaks in well-known roots, is a tool of power and satisfaction. Apparently, the most anticipated finding appears to be (auto) inter-textual – it refers to itself.
