Summary/Abstract: What is the risk? What are the emergency situations? How does the infrastructure affect these criteria? The article presents the risks to which critical infrastructure is subject to emergency situations. What are the critical infrastructure vulnerabilities?Critical Infrastructure Protection is recognized as being fundamental to maintaining community functionality in emergency situations, such as natural disasters. The primary goal of protecting critical infrastructure against the impact of natural disasters is to maintain the continuity of its operation, both during and after the disaster, resulting in a level of consolidated resilience.Notable situations about each type of hazard draw attention to the need to reduce the risk of an emergency situation or to mitigate its effects as a result of its production.Reducing the impact of natural disasters on people and critical infrastructure includes interventions to prevent or reduce the possibility of physical threats and social disturbances. However, there are two dominant types of reduction of the impact of natural disasters. Structural reduction involves the design, construction, maintenance and renovation of physical structures and infrastructures to resist physical forces and the impact of natural disasters. The non-structural reduction includes efforts to reduce the exposure of the human population, physical structures and infrastructures to danger.
