Analysis of Sources and Types of Threats for the Security

Summary/Abstract: The article concerns the assessment of the epistemology and methodology of analysis of threats for security and their source. The analysis used the study of documents, the qualitative and quantitative content analysis in relation to two forecasting documents, namely at the international level – Global Trends. Paradox of Progress, and at the national level Polish Strategic Defensive Review. These are two different concepts of looking at the future and, therefore, building appropriate strategies. The choice of the approach results from the fact that it is a part of the assumptions of the basic security theory and its features that best match the nature of the strategic culture of each country – the USA and Poland. The first approach anticipates the future, the second only predicts. In the first approach everyone adjusts the analysis structure, in the second one – it must be completely adhered to. The research carried out showed the directions of changes in Polish strategic thinking and in studying at universities in the fields related to security, politics and international relations.
