Summary/Abstract: Family businesses in the SME sector, whose owners have characteristics and entrepreneurial attitudes, use the entrepreneurial process to manage their development. In the Polish economy succession occurs more and more as a result of the growing number of family businesses in SME sector that are passed on to the younger generation. One possibility of succession is the ability to evaluate and possibly modification or change the entrepreneurial process. According to the author, in the process of this change, it is important to apply the effectual thinking and create an entrepreneurial model based on the assumption of the effectuation model. The aim of the article is to indicate the place of the entrepreneurial process in succession of family businesses in the SME sector.
