ALIJA IZETBEGOVIĆ’S DIPLOMATIC VISITS TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 1991-1995

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyze diplomatic visits to the U. S. by President of Bosnia and Herzegovina Alija Izetbegović from 1991 until the beginning of the Dayton peace talks. Based on archival sources, this article will lay out the chronology of the visits of President Izetbegović to the U.S., the meetings with high-ranking officials that he conducted and the substance of the messages he sought to convey. Given that much has been written about the Dayton peace talks, this article is limited to the period until the beginning of the peace talks. The aim of the article is to contribute to this aspect of Izetbegović’s political biography.
