Summary/Abstract: The article brings back to memory Wojciech Żukrowski and his novel about Opole Silesia entitled “Fire Bath”. In the course of the analysis, the evaluation of the work has been made; attention has been drawn to its strengths and weaknesses. Its undisputable asset is its truthful depiction of the process of the settlement of the Western Territories after World War 2, the atmosphere of those days, the Polish - Polish war, the friction between the independence underground and the supporters of the communist Poland. The novel is distinguished for its original form, as the chronological order of the events has been disturbed. Żukrowski, who favours plots that develop in a linear way, slices the story this time and refrains from aligning it in a coherent sequence. The weakness of the work is the portrayal of the two characters – the former member of the Home Army, Sprężyna, and the employee of the Security Office, Baruda. The socialist slogans reverberating throughout the novel about brotherly fight of Polish and Russian people against the German occupier also affect the level of the work
