Summary/Abstract: Jean-Jacques Rousseau was one of the important figures of the 18th century. Its work represents a great point of interest with regard to the elements of innovation, especially the romantic innovations (Confessions, Julie, or the New Héloïse, Reveries of the Solitary Walker) and those philosophical (On the Social Contract, Emile or On education) which reveal him like an eminent philosopher. Our study relates to the novel Julie or the New Héloïse, which proposes, as of its title, a message except for: a character with “a new” facet. Consequently, we propose a comparative study between “old Heloise”, the heroin of the history of love which fascinated generations since 12th century, and “the new Héloïse”, that of Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
