The aim of this study is to discuss legal requirements concerning qualifications of employees from occupational safety and health departments and relationships between these requirements and tasks performed by the employees. This provided the background to the definition, in the empirical part, of the study aim, which was to show the expectations of potential employees of occupational safety and health departments connected with opportunities for obtaining qualifications required by legal regulations. The focus was on opportunities to obtain qualifications necessary for being employed at the position of senior safety officer. The basis for the investigations was literature survey and empirical examinations conducted among the participants of a post-graduate course in occupational safety and health.
