Summary/Abstract: In Bukovina, former province of the Habsburg Monarchy, the first newspaper in German language was published between 1862 and 1868. The article presents a few general aspects of the press evolution after the revolutionary year 1848 and during the appearance of the mentioned publication. It focuses on the cultural (theatrical events and literary production), social (activity of several associations and charities) and political life (activity of the parliament of the province) in Bukovina, as depicted in the columns of the newspaper.
