Summary/Abstract: The following article focuses on the evolution of the periodical press (newspapers) after the Revolution of 1848 under the influence of two main press laws, which were issued in 1862 and 1867. They were applied in the entire Habsburg Monarchy and were the first to provide certain liberties to the newspaper industry in each province. At the same time, the central Austrian authorities maintained strict censorship rules, in order to control the content of the press. After the promulgation of the liberal Constitution in 1867, the freedom of the press was guaranteed by the law. The fact itself had the appearance of a high number of newspapers as a result, including in Bukovina.
