Summary/Abstract: Political discourse, in broad terms, is created by both institutional as well as non-institutional forms of communication. The discussed type of discourse has a radial structure consisting of central and peripheral genres. Due to the range of realisation, content and the specificity of a message, demotivational posters on politics can be classified as peripheral genres of political discourse. The article is devoted to the Russian-language demotivators presenting the most important Russian politicians. The author analysed formal and semantic relations between the compositional elements of posters. Extralinguistic factors, which are indispensable elements of each discourse, were also taken into consideration. The results of the research allowed to define genre features of the political demotivator and to indicate its function of political communication.
