The Concepts of "Sportsman", "Politician" and "Terrorist" in Young Adolescence

Summary/Abstract: The present article reviews results from a survey, conducted in 2006 with 304 Bulgarian adolescents of age 12-13 from two different areas of inhabitation. Using qualitative and quantitative methods we analyzed texts, produced by the participants in response of the following stimuli: sportsman, politician and terrorist. The main goals of this survey were to clarify the contents of the cog¬nitions, related to these three social roles, to analyze the affective component of the concepts and to test the significance of the influence, produced by different social background. Data are grouped in two main thematic modules. The first includes the way participants structure relevant information, description of the preferred strategies in explaining the meaning of the three words and analysis of the dominating affect within the texts. The second part is devoted to the differences between the two groups of participants in the survey.
