Summary/Abstract: Earthquake catalogs contain information about seismic events. There are different types of earthquake catalogs and they are used for several purposes, such as monitoring the seismic activity from short time periods and local scale to long time periods and regional, as well as global, scales. Earthquake catalogs are needed in order to recognize patterns of seismicity at local and regional scales, as well as for seismic hazard analysis for a given site or region. In order to contribute to devising all these assessments, an earthquake catalog has to be accessible for the community of researchers, lately by online means, continuously updated, in real time if possible, homogeneous, i.e. utilizing the same scale for magnitudes, and complete, covering, where possible, a long period of time during which all the events larger than a certain magnitude threshold are included.
