Summary/Abstract: Interjections, as discourse and pragmatic markers, modified by context, intonation and nonverbal components, support, ensure, improve, decorate communication. Along with other parts of speech, interjections may support connections in discourse, to reflect speaker’s emotional and cognitive reaction to the situation or to what has been said. In oral conversations, they support regulation of turn-taking, mark readiness of speaker to pass the turn, or the willingness of a listener to take the floor, help to avoid overlaps and misunderstanding, to ensure, correct and “repair” understanding problems in the talk.
