Summary/Abstract: The present paper proposes a focus on discursive practices as affected by the digital technologies which have given rise to new and different ways for people to communicate and manage social relationships. The fact that the language and terminology connected with computers have witnessed continuous changes in the past decades and that there is a new vocabulary emerging and incorporated into numerous every-day activity descriptions is a proof of how the traditional boundaries across fields have been blurred and of how various established and emerging communication technologies keep impacting the style, the content and the characteristics of our communication. In the attempt to find out how the new vocabulary came into being, various procedures have been identified, among which affixation, conversion, compounding and using abbreviated forms. The language features displayed on the internet influence mainly the vocabulary, though writing can also be affected in some cases, particularly when blending words or using their shorter forms.
