Summary/Abstract: This article traces the dynamics of the fundamental individual values of Bulgarian students in emerging adulthood, between 18 and 29 years of age, during the period of social and economic transition in Bulgaria. Three empirical studies were conducted in 1995, 2005, and 2015 that were based on the Schwartz Value Survey (Schwartz 1992). Results from a comparison of the three cohorts indicate that the importance of both individual and collective values has grown during the 20-year period of the overall study. While value priorities did not generally change over time, they became more ambivalent, with collective interests prevailing over individual interests in 2015. The article also discusses issues related to the characteristics of value models observed among emerging adults since 1989 after the fall of the communist regime in Bulgaria.
