BALIKESİR’DE BULUNAN BİR CÖNKTE ÂŞIK ÖMER’İN ŞİİRLERİ
POEMS OF AŞIK ÖMER IN A CÖNK FOUND IN BALIKESİR

Summary/Abstract: Cönks are notebooks consisting transcribed oral folk literature, tekke-sufi literature, and even classical Turkish literature along with information about prayers, sorcery, and folk medicine and veterinary. Cönks that are known also as "sefine (chief)", "sığır dili (cattle's tongue), and "dana dili (calf's tongue) based on their longitudinally opening shape and their content, include some of the poems of the prominent poets of the minstrel literarture such as Aşık Ömer. The article focuses on Aşık Ömer's poems that are included in a cönk, which is located in our library, but are not included or included with some word and sentence differences in existing divans. Ten poems belonging to Aşık Ömer, one of the prominent representatives of seventeenth-century literature, who gave examples with Arabic (aruz) prosody due to his familiarity with classical literature, were given in comparison with "Aşık Ömer Hayatı ve Şiirleri (Aşık Ömer, His Life and Poems) by Sadettin Nüzhet Ergun, "Aşık Ömer Divanı" by Yakup Karasoy and Orhan Yavus, and "Aşık Ömer, Şiirler, Gazeller (Aşık Ömer, Poems, Gazels)" by Rıza Fazıl. In addition, two poems which are not included in the mentioned studies have been introduced to the scientific world.
