Summary/Abstract: In this paper we present some general aspects related to non-formal education: essence, objectives, characteristics, types, methodology of non-formal education. We will also present a comparative approach to the two organized and systematic forms of education: formal education and non-formal education, as well as the Romanian legislative context that regulates non-formal education. Non-formal education encompasses a set of activities which offer an approach of the training and learning process through pleasant and motivating activities. Through the non-formal education activities, various skills and competences can be trained and developed. Non-formal education consists of any educational action organized by specialists outside the school system, which forms a bridge between the knowledge taught by teachers and their implementation. This modern type of training eliminates the stress of grades and ratings, of compulsory subjects and mandatory homework. It implies the emotion of knowing and the desire of actively participating into your own process of training, evolution and becoming.
