Influence of Fleet Management System Class for Safety of Road Cargo Transport

Summary/Abstract: In this article authors made an attempt to analyze the class of Fleet Management Systems. Solutions based on newest IT technology are becoming more and more popular in modern road cargo companies. It brings many benefits for freight carriers, such as reduction in fuel expenses or concern for the natural environment. Therefore, this topic requires more detailed analysis. The article is divided into two sections. The first one was dedicated to some theoretical aspects of road cargo transport. Second one is much more practical and focus on different types of risk in road cargo transport and functioning of FMS in practice. A lot of attention has been devoted to Scania Fleet Management, which is great example of FMS class. Information given in this article are mostly based on personal experiences of authors, connected with daily work in TSL (Transport, Spedition, Logistics) branch
