Summary/Abstract: The epidemic of smoking is one of the few preventable causes of worldwide death. It is estimated that smoking is responsible for half of the deaths among smokers. It is also well known that it is one of the main factors the loss of years of life. The results showed that 44.2% of the country's population over age 15 are exposed to secondhand smoke at home. According to data from the GATS in Poland, the costs resulting from the premature death of one person in 2008 amounted to about 621 000 zł. This gives you the option to estimate that the overall financial loss because of this may reach 5.5 billion zł per year. Numerous publications show high harmfulness of tobacco smoke affecting the health and development of the child. Child inhales large amounts of toxic substances from the air to the lungs. In contrast to adults, however, it does unfortunately more efficiently, and it is conditioned by several physiological factors. One of them is that children tend to breathe faster than adults, which results getting into the baby's lungs large portion of the smoke in a short time
