Meta-translation as a literary phenomenon

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to work out the theoretical concept of the meta-translation and to order the criteria, methods of analysis and judgement of this literary phenomenon. The author introduces the distinction between two general concepts of meta-translation against the translation studies and meta-literary background: on the one hand the meta-translation is treated as one of the translation strategies based on the traditional opposition original text vs. translation, on the other, meta-translation is treated as a necessary consequence of a growing literary phenomenon of re-translation where new translations of the same texts often contest the previous ones.
