Summary/Abstract: This review aims to reveal the the human condition in its various hypostases, from the man politically involved, the man who suffers the rigors of the totalitarian, dictatorial regimes to the man who finds in prayer a resignation or a relief. It is known that letters have always been a way of establishing relationships between people or, more modernly in expression, “a way of socializing”. The collection of letters published by the Humanitas Publishing House entitled “Dear Sir and Friends” brings together letters addressed to the diplomat Arsène Henry by the late 20th century elite of Bucharest. Mircea Anghelescu’s book “The Black Gate” presents a less known real‑ ity, that of writers who have made imprisonment not in communism but in the interwar period. The third book chosen for this article, „Secret Dialogues” has another story. Ioana Pârvulescu has the merit of gathering in an anthology and analyzing pages where writers devote their thoughts to diversity, either directly or through their characters.
