Summary/Abstract: The methodological particularities in the restoration of Nicolae Grigorescu’s mural from Zamfira Monastery Church are primarily imposed by the original painting technique and secondarily by the conservation state, the previous interventions and the structural elements of the church. The main building material of the vertical walls is the brick, whereas the vaults and the dome are built on a wooden structure. The interior of the church preserves murals done in various techniques such as al fresco, at the same time but the original one is painted in oil painting technique. The later represents an early artwork of Nicolae Grigorescu. There are also previous interventions which complete the vast mural ensemble. The conservation-restoration of the frescoes and the oil mural painting requires a specific methodology for the layer or colour film. We refer especially to the dirt deposits removal from the painted surface, to the restoration of the adherence of the exfoliated colour layer as well as the treatments regarding the aesthetic presentation.
