Summary/Abstract: Through the missions accomplished between 1940 and 1945, the Gendarmerie had an essential contribution to the protection of life, of the integrity of the citizens and of their goods and also the protection of the stability principles of the country. The Brăila Gendarme Legion took part at the same time, actively, in the removal of the damage done by the floods caused by the rivers’ overflow, and in the Soviet airstrikes. Through the actions carried out, it managed to capture paratroopers and Russian prisoners, to uncover unexploded bombs in the wreckage, to evacuate the people and their animals out of the way of the parachute-flares and to save the grains by transporting it on the railway linings.
