Summary/Abstract: This work is the result based on the research and analysis of archival documents from archival funds, such as the General Inspectorate of the Gendarmerie and the Regional Inspectorates of Gendarmes, held by the Central National Historical Archives, but also other archival sources. The article aims to describe the activity of the operative Gendarmerie between the years of 1939-1941, in the context of the invasion of Poland, in 1939, by Germany and the positioning of Romania to the events of this period. Romania respects the agreement with Poland and allows the passage of war materials to support it in its territory, opening its borders for Polish refugees. The purpose of this article is to highlight the contribution of the Romanian Gendarmerie, by concentrating its personnel in some areas of the country, in order to ensure a climate of public order and safety, under the conditions in which an increased phenomenon spread - the invasion of Polish civilian and military refugees. It is also necessary to highlight the involvement of Romania through the contribution made by the Gendarmerie, which was mobilized to constitute specific troops for the purpose of sorting, disarming and directing Polish refugees in the places they were destined for - internment centers. After declaring the mobilization of the army in 1940, the gendarmes actively participated in the evacuation of the population from certain territories in safe conditions.
